A digital platform to help authors monitor the use of their works to be launched in Kazakhstan

Following a government meeting, a press conference was held with the participation of Minister of Justice Erlan Sarsembayev, Deputy Ministers of Justice Botagoz Jaksalekova, and Bekbolat Moldabekov.

During the briefing, Erlan Sarsembayev noted that for several months, Kazakhstani users have been unable to use local artists’ music on Instagram. According to him, this issue arose due to the expiration of the agreement between the KazAK Copyright Society of Kazakhstan and Meta.

The minister explained that the matter is entirely within the scope of contractual relations between rights holders and digital platforms. Currently, any organization managing collective copyright in Kazakhstan can establish agreements with platforms such as Instagram and Meta. Last fall, one of these agreements was terminated at the initiative of one of the parties. At present, one of the 15 such organizations in Kazakhstan is negotiating a new agreement with Meta. The Ministry of Justice is working to ensure that these agreements are implemented within a proper legal framework.

Additionally, the ministry is developing a digital platform that will allow authors to monitor the use of their works. This system is expected to help prevent copyright violations and provide better control for content creators.

Erlan Sarsembayev also announced that the country will continue simplifying enforcement procedures through an automated legal execution system. As part of this initiative, the maximum amount that can be recovered through this system will be increased from 20 to 50 monthly calculation indicators, making the process more efficient and cost-effective for citizens.
