One of the richest people in the world, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, has decided to leave his children only a small portion of his wealth. He told Indian podcaster Raj Shamani that each of his children will receive less than 1 percent of his total wealth.
- “My children have received an excellent upbringing and education, but they will receive less than 1 percent of my wealth. I made sure that this would not benefit them. This is not a dynasty. I do not require them to run Microsoft,” Gates said.
According to Forbes, Bill Gates’ fortune is currently estimated at $ 108 billion. Gates has invested a large part of this money in securities and other assets. Their value can vary depending on market fluctuations and is not always in the form of cash.
However, if each child receives about $ 1 billion, this would still be less than 1% of Gates’s fortune. The Microsoft founder’s three children – Jennifer (28 years old), Rory (25 years old) and Phoebe (22 years old) – are adults.
- Bill Gates says that he wants to give his children the opportunity to find their own path independently.
- “I want them to achieve their own success and income. I don’t want them to be overshadowed by my extraordinary luck and wealth,” he said.
As you know, Gates and his ex-wife Melinda jointly founded one of the largest charitable foundations in the United States – the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. They have been directing a significant part of their fortune through the foundation to charity and social projects.
Earlier, Bill Gates also expressed his opinion on the future of artificial intelligence. He said that within the next decade, artificial intelligence could partially replace the work of doctors and teachers. Gates noted that these technologies will bring major changes to the field of medical care, diagnostics, and education through virtual tutors and assistants.
