On June 9, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Dilma Rousseff, President of the BRICS New Development Bank, as part of the international investment forum held in Tashkent. During the meeting, issues of expanding practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and the bank were discussed.
At this meeting, it was announced that the bank’s Board of Governors had given its consent in principle to Uzbekistan’s membership in the New Development Bank. At the same time, it was announced that a program of first-order joint projects worth a total of $5 billion had been formed.
The projects include the modernization of irrigation systems, the development of the mining industry, financial support to the private sector, and the promotion of public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms in the fields of education and infrastructure. The Head of State stressed the need to quickly prepare and implement initiatives in these areas.
In addition, views were exchanged on supporting regional infrastructure projects and the consistent implementation of agreements reached earlier within the framework of the BRICS summit.
It should be recalled that during the BRICS summit in October 2023, Uzbekistan announced its plans to cooperate with the bank and join the new investment platform. President Mirziyoyev also expressed interest in artificial intelligence projects, noting the need to minimize risks and develop unified standards in this regard.
