May 2025 — Toronto. Cohere, a leading AI startup, has acquired Vancouver-based Ottogrid. The goal is to automate research processes for large enterprises using artificial intelligence.
What did Ottogrid do?
- Smart table + AI: Ottogrid created a platform that allows users to automatically collect data from websites and put it into tables.
- In October 2024, a major update and rebranding was introduced, introducing an API and new integrations.
- It will now gradually discontinue its standalone service — giving customers time to transition.
Integration with North: AI assistant gets even more powerful
- Ottogrid technology will be added to Cohere’s North platform — an AI assistant focused on document analysis and knowledge work, similar to ChatGPT.
- CEO Aidan Gomez: “This acquisition will take research to the next level for enterprises through ‘smart tables.’”
Strategic move behind the challenge
- Cohere missed its 2023 revenue forecast by 85%.
- Strategic pivot in 2024: $100M ARR and private AI services (for healthcare, finance, and government sectors).
