Instagram edits app launches

As Meta continues to expand its ecosystem, Instagram’s new video editing app, Instagram Edits, has officially launched. The app, which was introduced in January 2025, is now available for iOS and Android users.

Edits allows users to:

  • Add tracks from their music library
  • Apply visual effects and filters
  • Add subtitles and text
  • Crop objects
  • Export videos in HD, 2K, and 4K without a watermark—a key advantage over TikTok owner ByteDance’s CapCut app.

The app also features a camera feature and a video gallery, allowing users to extract audio from existing videos. It also has full integration with Instagram, allowing users to bookmark videos and track viewing statistics.

All features are currently free, but Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri hinted in an interview that paid options could be added in the future.

This move will strengthen Instagram’s position in the video content creation market and allow users to create high-quality and flexible videos without third-party applications.

It should be noted that Instagram previously introduced the function of automatically detecting underage accounts using artificial intelligence and switching privacy settings to teen mode. This once again demonstrates the company’s strategy focused on creativity and digital safety.

At a time when the short-form video content market is rapidly developing, the Instagram Edits application is the next step in Meta’s strategy to retain users on its platform and provide them with quality tools.
