LM Arena Raises $100M

LM Arena, a platform widely used for evaluating artificial intelligence models, has closed a $100 million investment round. According to Bloomberg, the investment valued the platform at $600 million.

The round was led by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and the University of California’s UC Investments fund. Lightspeed Venture Partners, Felicis Ventures and Kleiner Perkins also participated.

Founded in 2023, LM Arena has become a platform that many leading AI labs (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic) rely on to test and market their models. The platform is run primarily by UC Berkeley scientists.

LM Arena was initially funded through grants and donations. The current investment will help it gain a stronger technological foundation for the future. However, recently, some researchers have alleged that the LM Arena rating system is being abused by large AI companies – allegations that LM Arena has strongly denied.
