German-based startup Marvel Fusion has raised a €50 million Series B extension, bringing its total funding to €385 million — making it the most well-funded fusion energy company in Europe.
Marvel Fusion’s approach stands out in the market: instead of the conventional magnetic confinement (tokamak) method, the company is developing inertial confinement fusion — a technique that uses powerful lasers to compress and ignite hydrogen, producing clean energy.
Why does this matter?
- A bold alternative to traditional methods: Inertial fusion, powered by laser-driven hydrogen implosion, is a less-explored but highly promising path in the global race for fusion energy.
- Big funding, bigger goals: With this new investment, Marvel Fusion is transitioning from research to industrial deployment. A prototype is planned for 2032, with a commercial fusion plant expected by 2036.
- A strategic opportunity for Europe: While the U.S. has already funneled billions into fusion, Marvel Fusion positions itself as Europe’s strongest answer in this high-stakes field.
Clean energy is no longer a distant future — Marvel Fusion is building that future today.
