Microsoft has announced that it will lay off 7,000 employees, which is about 3% of its total workforce. Forbes reported this.
The cuts are part of the company’s strategy to optimize resources and increase investment in artificial intelligence platforms. According to Reuters, the cuts are not related to artificial intelligence itself, but to the need to invest in the company’s new AI initiatives.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella noted that the company is actively implementing artificial intelligence capabilities in its products – Microsoft 365, Azure and Dynamics 365. The company previously offered employees who showed poor performance 16 weeks of compensation to resign or participate in a productivity program.
