In 2024, Telegram launched its internal currency, Telegram Stars, which developers can convert into the Toncoin cryptocurrency. The platform does not require users to provide personal data during registration. Its source code is open, and its encryption protocols are publicly available for audit.
In June 2024, Telegram founder Pavel Durov visited Kazakhstan at the invitation of the Minister of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry. During his visit, he explored the infrastructure of the tech cluster and learned about the support programs for IT companies. Following this visit, Telegram opened its regional office within the Astana Hub.
