
As part of the “MWC Barcelona – 2025” Global Mobile Congress, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, met with the leadership of “Ookla.” The meeting was attended by Ookla’s President and CEO, Stephen Bye, Chief Strategy Officer Chip Strange, and Victor Zeng, Sales Director for the North and Central Asia region.
During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on the development of internet infrastructure, strengthening network quality monitoring, and implementing technological innovations. In addition, they explored ways to accelerate the deployment of 5G networks in Uzbekistan, test cutting-edge technological solutions for mobile operators, and integrate global best practices into the country’s telecommunications sector.
Ookla representatives highlighted Uzbekistan’s significant progress in mobile internet speed rankings over recent years. According to the Speedtest Global Index, Uzbekistan ranked 133rd in 2020. However, as of January 2025, the country has risen to 68th place, marking a remarkable improvement of 65 positions in just four years.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties discussed strengthening their future collaboration and working on joint projects to further enhance internet services in Uzbekistan.
