OpenAI has introduced a new search experience in ChatGPT, making it much easier for users to find past conversations, projects, uploaded documents, and images.
The feature is available in the ChatGPT web app through the sidebar, as well as on iOS and Android. Users can search using keywords and narrow results with content-type filters. Once a result is selected, ChatGPT takes users directly to the relevant message, project, or file.
The update is particularly useful for people who rely on ChatGPT for work, research, or long-term projects. Instead of scrolling through lengthy chat histories to locate an old conversation or uploaded document, users can now retrieve it within seconds using the built-in search tool.
The new search functionality reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy of turning ChatGPT into a comprehensive productivity platform rather than just an AI chatbot. By making previously stored conversations and files easier to access, the company aims to improve workflow efficiency and knowledge management. The feature is rolling out gradually to ChatGPT users across the web and mobile platforms.
