Google to announce Android updates ahead of I/O

Google has decided to present Android news in a separate virtual event ahead of its annual developer conference, Google I/O. The company announced that it will hold an event on May 13 called “The Android Show: I/O Edition.” The event will feature the latest updates to the Android ecosystem.

The decision separates Android news from the main part of Google I/O, which is expected to see more AI (artificial intelligence) news and updates every year. AI news has traditionally taken up more time at Google I/O.

However, Google explained the change differently. The company said that since there were so many Android news events, it decided to organize a special event to combine them. The event will feature the latest news and updates via the Android Show video podcast. The company also noted that Android news will continue to be featured at Google I/O in keynotes and technical sessions for developers.

Announcing Android news at a virtual event is a significant change to the Google I/O program, and it’s not yet clear whether this is a sign that Android is being de-emphasized or simply being sidelined due to the sheer volume of news.
