In a landscape rapidly being transformed by generative AI, Hypernatural, a startup aiming to democratize video creation, has raised $9.2 million in funding to further its mission. Dubbed the “Canva for video,” the platform is designed to make high-quality video production accessible to everyday creators—with zero technical experience required.
A vision to simplify creativity
Founded in 2023 by Rebecca Kossnick (CEO) and Taylor Hughes (CTO), both former Facebook employees, Hypernatural has already begun to make waves with its powerful, user-friendly platform. The company’s key proposition? Anyone should be able to turn an idea into a polished video—in under a minute.
“We’re not building our own foundation model,” Kossnick said. “We’re building the infrastructure to deploy the best models fast and effectively.”
Hypernatural’s AI engine integrates around 15 models, including those from Google’s Veo 3, Lightricks’ LTX, and Black Forest Labs’ Flux, enabling it to deliver rich, fast-rendered content.
Funding and future plans
Hypernatural has secured $9.2 million in total funding, including a $6.8 million seed round led by AIX Ventures, closed in December 2024. Other investors include Underscore VC, Adverb Ventures, Character Capital, and 43 VC. The funds will support hiring—especially engineering talent—and further development of the platform’s capabilities.
“We’re doubling down on what’s working,” Kossnick emphasized, suggesting that Hypernatural will continue refining its tools while scaling its user base and infrastructure.
An intuitive platform for everyone
Hypernatural’s platform is remarkably easy to use. Users input a text prompt, select a visual style (e.g., anime), and define the video’s length and size. The system then generates a complete script, along with voice narration, characters, and customizable visuals. Paid subscribers can upload audio files or create custom avatars.
Once generated, users can edit the script, rearrange scenes, reanimate segments, or tap into a library of stock AI-generated footage.
The platform offers several pricing tiers:
- Free: Limited access
- Creator Plan: $12/month
- Premium Plans: Up to $48/month with expanded features like custom characters
Hypernatural emphasizes commercial rights compliance, ensuring that users retain full rights to the media they create.
One million users and counting
Hypernatural already boasts over 1 million users, ranging from casual creators to entrepreneurs and influencers. Many of its early adopters are writers, podcasters, and niche storytellers. Some notable examples include:
- A sci-fi novelist who serialized his books into 608 TikTok videos
- A fantasy writer who drove Amazon sales through video content
- A faceless content consultant running multiple viral channels
- A birdwatching TikTok star and a kitchenware reviewer—all powered by Hypernatural
Real users, real results
Users are raving about the product:
“The only platform that gives us full-length, emotionally compelling videos in under two minutes,” said Joseph Navarro, founder of Witness Mi.
“It’s fun, easy, and incredibly fast. It made me feel like a creator for the first time,” shared Melissa Trujillo, a Hypernatural user.
“Almost 100% of my community is using Hypernatural. We’ve helped creators get hundreds of millions of views,” said James Ward, founder of Simpli Faceless.
What’s next: scaling innovation
Hypernatural’s roadmap includes:
- Doubling down on quality: Custom characters, styles, and fine-tuned models
- Expanding marketing: Influencer campaigns and affiliate programs
- New features: High-quality exports, undo options, right-to-left editing, and more music tools
- Cost optimization: Bringing more AI inference in-house
With its fast, intuitive, and powerful toolset, Hypernatural is positioning itself not just as a content creation tool, but as a central hub for the future of storytelling in the AI era.
