The Committee for Development of Competition and Protection of Consumer Rights of Uzbekistan has initiated a case against YandexGo UB on grounds of violation of the Law “On Competition”. This was based on an appeal filed by Uzum Market.
According to it, Yandex Market’s advertising video, by comparing Uzum Market’s activities in a negative context, unfair competition was allowed and the company’s business reputation was damaged. The Special Commission of the Committee is considering the case on the basis of Article 21 of the law.
The actions prohibited by the law include:
- dissemination of distorted or false information about a competitor’s goods or prices;
- inaccurate and unfair comparison;
- advertising content that misleads the consumer;
- unauthorized disclosure of a trade secret;
- attempts to squeeze a competitor out of the market.
This situation indicates the intensification of competition in the digital retail space of Uzbekistan. This once again reminds us of the importance of ethical standards and legal boundaries in advertising.
