Kazakhstan has taken a major strategic step in the technology sector by signing a landmark $10 billion agreement with U.S.-based AI infrastructure firm Firebird and semiconductor leader NVIDIA. Representing the largest digital investment in Central Asia’s history, the project is described by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov as a fundamental pillar of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s “Digital Qazaqstan” strategy, aligning with the country’s 2026 Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence initiative. Turning energy resources into high-value outputs
Globally, AI data centers consume vast amounts of electricity, posing a significant bottleneck for many nations. As NVIDIA Vice President Rev Lebaredian highlighted, Kazakhstan’s abundant and relatively cheap energy resources—including renewables—give the country a genuine competitive edge.
The Outcome: Instead of exporting raw energy resources, Kazakhstan will be able to convert its electricity into “digital gold”—AI computing power—**and sell it at a much higher value.
