Uzum Market: Uzbekistan’s modern market giant
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on Telegram

One day, while my son and I were standing in line at the market, he got bored and said: “Mom, you could order from Uzum Market, so you don’t have to wait in line.” At first, I didn’t believe it, I didn’t even imagine that they could deliver the products you buy from the market. But when we got home, we tried it: they delivered fruits, bread, and even household items quickly and with high quality. That’s when I realized that this service not only saves time, but also makes our lives much more convenient. Yes, Uzum Market is becoming an important part of our lives.

How was the company created?

Uzum Market began its operations on December 1, 2022, and in a short time became one of the leaders in the e-commerce sector in Uzbekistan. The founders were Jasur Jumayev and Boris Dobrodeev, who aimed to bring a new approach to the market by combining innovative ideas and advanced technologies. Jasur Jumayev, the former head of the popular Russian company “Vkontakte” and co-founder of the company “KupiKupon”, decided to successfully apply his experience in Uzbekistan. His strategic approach turned Uzum Market into a strong competitor in a short time.

Boris Dobrodeev, the former CEO of the popular Russian company “VK”, currently works as a consultant at Uzum Market. Their combined strength helped to strengthen Uzum Market not only in Uzbekistan, but also in the entire Central Asian market. Through the development of technologies, fast delivery systems and providing high-quality services to customers, Uzum Market has become a reliable and stable brand. Thus, the company has created its own path to success not only through trade, but also through digital services.

What does the brand name mean?

The name Uzum Market is not just a brand, but also reflects the rich history, values and national heritage of our country. Grapes have long been a symbol of prosperity and love in Uzbek homes.

The choice of the name reflects the brand founders’ respect for national values and their desire to provide the most convenient services for consumers. Uzum Market has strengthened its position in the market with its quality products, fast delivery system and attention to customers. The main factor in this success is, of course, the harmony of the brand name with the national spirit.

Uzum Market and competitors

Uzum Market is one of the largest marketplaces in Uzbekistan, creating an ecosystem that includes e-commerce, fintech and banking services. Today, Uzum Market occupies more than 70% of the e-commerce market, operating 11 times larger than its closest competitor.

Uzum Market’s international competitors include the Russian Ozon and Wildberries platforms and the Chinese Temu service. Since Ozon and Wildberries offer delivery services to Uzbekistan, serious competition is emerging for the local market.

One of the biggest advantages of Uzum Market is its reliable logistics system. Users have the opportunity to make purchases more profitable through special discounts and promotions. For example, in 2023, the Uzum Market mobile application was downloaded more than 13.5 million times, which made it one of the most popular applications in Uzbekistan after Telegram and Instagram.

Jobs and geographical coverage

Uzum Market also makes a significant contribution to the country’s economy. Currently, the company employs about 10 thousand employees, 1,000 of whom are engaged in the development and support of software products.

During 2024, the number of company delivery points reached 934. Most of these points are located in areas with a population of less than 30 thousand people, which also serves to create new jobs. For example, 27% of newly opened delivery points are located in cities with a population of up to 30 thousand people, and 15% are in villages and districts with a population of up to 10 thousand people.

Uzum Market has quickly become Uzbekistan’s leading e-commerce platform. Quality, innovation and customer focus are the keys to its success, and the company not only facilitates online shopping, but also has a significant impact on the local economy and jobs. Uzum Market strives to achieve even greater heights in the future through innovative solutions and sustainable development strategies.
