Uzbekistan’s Minister of Digital Technologies, Sherzod Shermatov, and DataVolt CEO Rajit Nanda have discussed preparations to launch a data centre being built at IT Park Uzbekistan in Tashkent. Known as TAS-1, the project is intended to expand the country’s digital infrastructure and help meet growing demand for computing capacity.
According to the Ministry of Digital Technologies, the meeting on October 19, 2026, covered the final stages of construction, preparations for commissioning and arrangements for the opening ceremony. Construction and installation works are planned to be completed by the end of 2026, although an exact launch date has not yet been announced.
What will the DataVolt facility provide?
The TAS-1 data centre is designed to provide 12 megawatts of IT capacity. It is intended to support cloud computing, high-performance computing and workloads associated with artificial intelligence.
Data centres house servers, data storage systems and computing equipment that underpin digital services. They provide essential infrastructure for applications, business platforms, cloud services and AI systems that require substantial computing resources.
Why does it matter for Uzbekistan?
More local computing capacity. The facility could provide additional infrastructure for processing data and hosting digital services within Uzbekistan. This would give businesses and technology companies another option for meeting their computing needs.
AI and cloud services. Training and running AI models, analysing large datasets and operating cloud platforms require significant computing resources. TAS-1 is designed to support these workloads and contribute to the development of Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure.
Opportunities for local technology businesses. Greater access to computing infrastructure could help startups, software developers and established companies build and scale digital products. The practical benefits will depend on service availability, pricing and the terms offered to customers, which have not yet been announced.
Digital services exports. According to the ministry, the facility is expected not only to meet domestic demand but also to create opportunities to offer computing capacity and digital services to international markets. This could support Uzbekistan’s ambition to strengthen its position as a regional digital infrastructure hub.
When will the data centre open?
The TAS-1 project began in 2024. In 2026, DataVolt secured up to $150 million in project financing from international development finance institutions to support the facility’s development and long-term operation.
The financing group includes the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Germany’s DEG, the OPEC Fund for International Development and France’s Proparco.
Construction and installation works are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. However, the exact date when the facility will begin commercial operations and the terms under which customers will access its services have not yet been disclosed.
DataVolt’s TAS-1 project could become an important addition to Uzbekistan’s digital infrastructure. Its practical impact will depend on when the facility becomes operational, which services it offers and how accessible those services are to local businesses.
