Qatar investment authority backs Anthropic’s record $13 Billion round as AI firm hits $183 Billion valuation

Anthropic secures record-breaking funding as it accelerates global AI growth.

The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) has joined a group of leading global investors in Anthropic’s $13 billion Series F round, pushing the company’s valuation to $183 billion. This marks a nearly threefold increase from its $61.5 billion valuation just six months earlier in March 2025.

The round was led by Iconiq Capital, with Fidelity Management & Research Company and Lightspeed Venture Partners as co-leads. Alongside QIA, prominent institutional investors such as Singapore’s GIC, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs Alternatives, and the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan also participated. Notably, the UAE’s MGX, which had been in advanced talks earlier this year, was absent from the final list of backers.

Political backdrop and controversy

The deal comes against the backdrop of controversy. Earlier this summer, leaked internal messages revealed that Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had expressed concerns that taking funding from Middle Eastern leaders could “line the pockets of dictators.” His comments sparked backlash from tech leaders in the Gulf.

Record-breaking growth trajectory

Despite the criticism, Anthropic is experiencing one of the fastest growth phases in tech history:

  • Run-rate revenue: Grew from $1 billion in early 2025 to over $5 billion by August.
  • Customer base: Now serving more than 300,000 business customers, with large accounts generating over $100,000 in annual revenue growing nearly 7x year-over-year.
  • Claude Code: The developer tool launched in May 2025 has already hit a $500 million run-rate revenue and grown usage 10x in just three months.

Anthropic’s CFO Krishna Rao stated:

“We are seeing exponential growth in demand across our entire customer base. This financing demonstrates investors’ extraordinary confidence in our financial performance.”

A new chapter in the AI race

Best known as the company behind the Claude AI assistant, Anthropic is positioning itself as a direct rival to OpenAI and Google DeepMind. The fresh capital will allow the company not only to expand its technological capabilities but also to scale enterprise services at an unprecedented pace.

Bottom line: QIA’s record investment underscores both the rising role of Middle Eastern capital in shaping the global AI landscape and Anthropic’s transformation into one of the fastest-growing technology companies in history.
