Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI, generated nearly $4.6 billion in revenue in 2025 — roughly 12 times its previous-year figure. However, it reported a net loss of $42 billion. Despite these losses, its potential IPO could value the company at more than $2 trillion.
About $34 billion of the reported loss came from accounting treatment of financial instruments. This does not mean Anthropic spent or lost that entire amount in cash. Still, its operating loss exceeded $8 billion, highlighting the cost of building and running advanced AI systems.
Massive infrastructure commitments
Anthropic spent more than $7 billion on computing infrastructure in 2025. It has also disclosed at least $518 billion in future commitments related to cloud services, computing capacity and infrastructure. Much of this spending is tied to long-term agreements that cannot easily be canceled.
Dependence on major technology partners
Amazon and Google play a significant role in distributing Anthropic’s services and providing computing infrastructure. Around 47% of Anthropic’s 2025 sales came through the two companies’ cloud platforms. While these partnerships help Anthropic reach customers, both companies are also competitors in the AI market. What investors will be watching
Anthropic’s rapid revenue growth supports its ambitious valuation target, but investors will also need to assess whether future revenue can justify its infrastructure costs and long-term commitments.
A potential valuation above $2 trillion would make the IPO a major test of investor confidence in the AI industry. The figure remains a target, rather than a confirmed final valuation.
