Google Cloud Adds OpenAI Models, Expanding AI Options for Enterprise Customers

Google Cloud is expanding its enterprise AI platform with the addition of OpenAI models, giving businesses more flexibility to choose artificial intelligence tools for different tasks while managing their usage through existing cloud infrastructure.

Announced on October 21, 2026, the integration brings OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna models to Google Cloud’s Model Garden. The platform already offers Google’s Gemini models, Anthropic’s Claude models and a broad selection of other third-party and open-source AI systems.

Three models for different workloads

The newly added OpenAI models are designed to serve different business needs.

  • GPT-6 Astra targets demanding tasks involving software development, computer use, professional work and scientific research.
  • GPT-6.1 Sol offers capabilities close to Astra at a lower cost, with a focus on agent-based coding, computer use and professional tasks.
  • GPT-6 Luna is designed for faster, cost-efficient performance across everyday tasks at scale.

Instead of building their systems around a single AI provider, businesses can select models based on the requirements of each task, including performance, response speed and cost.

For example, a company could use a more capable model for complex software development while assigning routine tasks to a faster, less expensive alternative.

One platform for AI usage and billing

A key part of the announcement is the integration with Google Cloud Marketplace. Usage of the newly available OpenAI models will be billed through Google Cloud, with charges appearing on a single cloud invoice.

Eligible customers can also apply their existing Google Cloud spending commitments toward model usage. The usage can count toward Flexible Savings Plans, subject to the applicable terms.

For businesses already using Google Cloud, this arrangement could simplify procurement and financial oversight. Rather than managing a separate purchasing process for each AI provider, teams can handle model access and billing through their existing cloud environment.

However, consolidated billing does not automatically mean lower AI costs. The financial benefit will depend on each company’s usage, model selection and existing cloud agreements.

Security and data governance

Google Cloud says the integration is designed to meet enterprise security and governance requirements. According to the company, prompts, context and model outputs remain within customers’ designated data perimeters and are not used to train foundation models.

The platform also offers authenticated access, centralized audit logging and security controls for enterprise environments. Google has said additional options, including Zero Data Retention and Confidential Compute, are planned for the future.

These measures are particularly relevant for companies working with sensitive business information or operating in regulated industries. Organizations will still need to review the applicable terms, access settings and compliance requirements before deploying the models.

Availability

GPT-6 Astra, GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Luna are rolling out in private preview to selected enterprise customers through Google Cloud’s Model Garden. The announcement does not mean that the models are immediately available to every Google Cloud customer.

Google also plans to bring OpenAI models to additional products, including Gemini for business and Google Antigravity.

Why it matters

The move reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI: businesses increasingly need access to several models rather than relying on one provider for every task.

For Google Cloud, offering competing AI models alongside Gemini could make its platform more attractive to companies that want flexibility without rebuilding their infrastructure around different vendors.

For businesses, the main question is no longer simply which AI model is the most capable. It is also how effectively that model fits existing workflows, security requirements and budgets.
