On October 28–29, three of the world’s largest technology companies — Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon — will release their quarterly financial results. This time, investors will be looking not only at revenue and profit figures but also at whether the billions of dollars these companies are spending on artificial intelligence are delivering tangible results.
In recent years, Microsoft, Google and Amazon have directed substantial funding toward expanding AI infrastructure, building data centers and increasing computing capacity. These investments are important for future growth, but they are also raising questions about when and to what extent the spending will translate into revenue.
Microsoft will release its quarterly results on October 28. Investors will pay particular attention to the growth of its Azure cloud services and capital expenditures on AI infrastructure. In the previous quarter, Azure revenue grew by 39% on a constant-currency basis.
Alphabet will also report its results on October 28. The growth of Google Cloud and the company’s spending on AI projects will be among the key areas of focus. In the second quarter, Google Cloud revenue reached $13.6 billion, representing a 32% year-over-year increase.
Amazon will publish its financial results on October 29. Investors will assess the performance of its AWS cloud business, revenue trends and spending on AI infrastructure. AWS generated $30.9 billion in revenue in the second quarter.
On October 28, the US Federal Reserve will also announce its interest rate decision. Alongside the rate itself, signals about the regulator’s future monetary policy could influence market sentiment. Since interest rates affect the cost of financing, they are also relevant to technology companies making substantial infrastructure investments.
This week’s earnings reports could reveal another dimension of the AI race: as technology giants continue to pour money into artificial intelligence, investors increasingly want to see tangible financial returns from those investments.
