Uzbekistan has launched a pilot project to test the use of the HUMO stable token as a means of payment. The project is being carried out under the supervision of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan and the National Agency of Perspective Projects (NAPP).
The project is being implemented by HUMO Digital. With the approval of the Central Bank, the company was registered by NAPP as a participant in a special regulatory regime — a regulatory sandbox designed to test the circulation of stable tokens. HUMO Digital was included in the NAPP registry on September 2, 2026.
1 HUMO = 1 soum
The pilot will test the issuance, circulation and redemption of the HUMO stable token. It will also assess the possibility of using the token to pay for and accept payments for goods, works and services in Uzbekistan. The value of 1 HUMO will be pegged to 1 Uzbek soum. The token is expected to be backed by Uzbekistan’s government securities.
The project will also involve the integration of banks, payment processing systems and blockchain infrastructure. Asterium will participate as a technology partner. The company holds relevant licenses for crypto-depository, crypto-exchange and crypto-shop activities.
More than 20 businesses ready to participate
More than 20 entrepreneurs are ready to join the pilot as merchants. Their participation will allow the use of HUMO tokens in real-world payment transactions to be tested.
The main objectives of the project are to accelerate business settlements, improve transaction transparency and security, identify financial, operational and cybersecurity risks associated with stable tokens, and develop ways to minimize them.
The Central Bank will also monitor whether the project is consistent with monetary policy objectives and does not pose risks to financial and price stability.
How long will the project last?
The initial term of the pilot is 12 months. If necessary, the project may be extended, but its total duration cannot exceed three years. Following the pilot, the government will assess the practical potential of a stable token model backed by government securities. The identified risks will also be used to develop further approaches to regulating digital financial instruments in Uzbekistan.
Importantly, the HUMO stable token is not being introduced as a new currency or as a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). It is a digital financial instrument being tested within a special regulatory framework.
