Apple is expected to introduce new home-focused technology today, October 13, as part of its “Welcome Home” product launch. The date and tagline were announced in a teaser shared by Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.
According to reports from MacRumors and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, the anticipated lineup includes three products: a new smart home hub, an updated HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV 4K. Apple has not yet officially confirmed the complete product lineup or the specifications of these rumored devices.
A new smart home hub
The main anticipated announcement is a new smart home hub designed to bring connected-home controls together on a dedicated screen. Referred to as HomeView in some reports, the device could combine elements of the iPad and HomePod into a single product.
Leaks suggest that the hub could feature an approximately six-inch square display, with versions designed for wall mounting and tabletop use.
The device is expected to provide access to Apple Home controls, allowing users to manage connected lights, cameras and other smart accessories. It could also display calendars and weather information, play music and support FaceTime video calls.
Deeper integration with Siri is another anticipated feature. According to reports, a camera and sensors could identify household members and personalize the information displayed on the screen. However, these capabilities and the HomeView name have not been officially confirmed.
Updated HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K
Apple is also expected to refresh its HomePod mini smart speaker. Rumored improvements include a faster processor, enhanced wireless connectivity and additional color options. These changes could improve performance and support for Apple’s smart home features.
A new generation of Apple TV 4K is also expected. Reports suggest that the device could receive a more powerful chip, updated wireless connectivity and an improved Siri Remote.
Together, the upgrades could strengthen integration across Apple’s connected-home products and services.
Competing with Amazon and Google
Apple’s rumored smart home hub would enter a market already served by Amazon Echo Show and Google Nest Hub.
Amazon’s Echo Show combines a touchscreen with Alexa, allowing users to control compatible smart devices, monitor connected cameras and create automated routines. Google’s Nest Hub offers similar functionality through Google Home, alongside media playback and access to everyday information.
Apple’s potential advantage lies in its integration with the iPhone and its wider ecosystem, including Apple TV, HomePod and Apple Home. A dedicated hub could give existing Apple customers a central interface for managing connected accessories and accessing personal information.
However, pricing, third-party device compatibility and Siri’s capabilities will be important factors in determining how effectively Apple competes with established products.
Today’s launch could provide a clearer picture of Apple’s ambitions in the smart home market. Details about the products, prices and availability will depend on the company’s official announcements.
