Apple may put advanced Siri AI behind a paid iCloud+ tier

Apple may soon charge users for advanced Siri AI features. During the company’s latest earnings call, CEO Tim Cook suggested that the growing cost of running AI services could eventually lead to more expensive iCloud+ subscription plans for heavy AI users.

According to Cook, Apple has not finalized its monetization strategy yet. However, the company is exploring the possibility of offering additional AI capabilities through higher-tier iCloud+ subscriptions, allowing users who rely heavily on Siri AI to access more advanced features.

The next-generation Siri, expected to launch publicly later this year, will bring major upgrades, including on-screen awareness, deeper app integration, personalized context, and more natural conversations powered by Apple Intelligence. These features rely on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure, which requires significant computing resources and increases operational costs.

The move could mark Apple’s first major step toward monetizing its AI ecosystem. The company’s Services business—including iCloud+, Apple TV+, and Apple One—has become one of its fastest-growing revenue streams, and AI-powered subscriptions could further strengthen that segment.

For now, Apple has not announced any pricing or confirmed that Siri AI will require a separate subscription. Cook emphasized that the company is still evaluating user demand and usage patterns before making a final decision on potential premium AI tiers within iCloud+.
