ChatGPT’s mobile app is setting new records in revenue growth.
Since its launch in May 2023 on iOS and Android, the ChatGPT app has surpassed $2 billion in global consumer spending, according to app intelligence provider Appfigures. This amount is nearly 30 times greater than the combined lifetime spending of its closest rivals, including Claude, Copilot, and Grok.
Rapid growth
In 2025 alone, the app has already generated $1.35 billion, marking a 673% increase year-over-year compared to $174 million during the same period (January–July) in 2024. On average, ChatGPT is now making $193 million per month, up sharply from $25 million last year.
By contrast, its nearest competitor, Grok, has earned just $25.6 million so far this year—53 times less than ChatGPT. Grok’s average monthly revenue stands at around $3.6 million, or just 1.9% of ChatGPT’s.
Users and markets
According to Appfigures:
- ChatGPT’s lifetime revenue per install is $2.91.
- Claude follows with $2.55, while Grok earns $0.75 and Copilot just $0.28.
- In the U.S., ChatGPT’s spending per download is even higher at $10, with the market accounting for 38% of the app’s total lifetime revenue.
- Germany is the second-largest market, contributing 5.3% of lifetime spending.
Downloads
So far, the ChatGPT app has been installed 690 million times worldwide, compared to Grok’s 39.5 million installs.
In 2025 alone, ChatGPT was downloaded 318 million times, nearly 2.8x more than the 113 million installs recorded during the same period last year.
- India leads in downloads, representing 13.7% of total installs.
- The U.S. comes second, with 10.3% of global downloads.
Conclusion
The data highlights ChatGPT’s overwhelming dominance in the mobile AI app market. Competing chatbots still have a long way to go to close the gap. While companies also generate revenue through API services and web subscriptions, ChatGPT’s lead in mobile consumer adoption remains unmatched.
