Elon Musk Resigns from Trump Administration

Elon Musk has resigned from his role as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), created in early 2025. He aimed to cut bureaucracy and reduce federal spending — efforts that led to mass layoffs and the closure of several agencies.

Musk criticized Trump’s newly proposed spending bill, calling it contradictory to DOGE’s mission. This disagreement is cited as the main reason for his departure.

He now plans to shift focus back to his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX.
