Chinese technology company Huawei has unveiled a new Atlas 960 SuperPoD computing system designed for artificial intelligence. The new technology is aimed at accelerating the training and deployment of AI models.
The system was presented on September 17 at the Huawei Connect 2026 conference in Shanghai. The company also demonstrated an updated UnifiedBus technology for connecting AI chips to one another.
What does the Atlas 960 SuperPoD do?
The Atlas 960 SuperPoD is designed to combine multiple AI chips into a single computing system. According to Huawei, the new system is based on Ascend 960 chips and provides high computing power for training and running large AI models.
Huawei aims to create an alternative to Nvidia
Huawei is developing its new technologies as an alternative to AI infrastructure from companies such as Nvidia. Amid US restrictions on the export of advanced chips, China is placing greater emphasis on developing its domestic AI computing infrastructure.
Huawei is also working on the next generation of its Ascend chips. The company plans to release the Ascend 960DT and 960PR chips in 2027.
The new technologies are part of Huawei’s strategy to increase the computing power required for AI and develop China’s domestic AI infrastructure.
