Samarkand is set to expand its industrial and technology infrastructure, with new industrial zones, technology parks and high-tech enterprises planned as part of the city’s expansion. A total of 17,226.5 hectares of land is expected to be incorporated into Samarkand, bringing the city’s population to around 880,000. The main goal is to turn the newly incorporated areas into new economic and technology hubs.
According to the plans, the new territories will host:
— industrial zones;
— technology parks;
— high-tech manufacturing facilities;
— service and tourism infrastructure.
The projects are expected to help attract investment, expand production capacity and create new jobs in the region. Samarkand Region is already developing infrastructure for technology-intensive industries. In particular, the Technopark Nurabad special industrial zone is expected to attract $1.1 billion in foreign direct investment between 2025 and 2030 and create around 5,100 permanent jobs.
The city is also developing its IT Park branch, which is planned to serve as an innovation hub for young people, startups and IT companies. Therefore, Samarkand’s expansion could become more than a territorial change — it may strengthen the city’s position as a regional hub for industry, technology and innovation.
