WhatsApp is testing a new productivity feature that could make catching up on conversations much easier. In the latest beta version for Android (build 2.25.21.12), the messaging platform has introduced a tool called Quick Recap — an AI-powered function that provides concise summaries of unread messages.
According to WABetaInfo, Quick Recap allows users to select up to five chats from the “Chats” tab and receive a short digest of the missed messages. Instead of scrolling through lengthy threads, users can now rely on artificial intelligence to analyze the content and generate a brief summary, saving valuable time and effort.
The feature is currently optional and disabled by default. Users who wish to activate it will need to do so manually via the app’s settings.
Privacy comes first
WhatsApp emphasizes that Quick Recap will not compromise user privacy. The feature utilizes Private Processing technology, ensuring that neither WhatsApp nor its parent company Meta will have access to the content of private messages or AI-generated summaries. All data will be processed in an encrypted and isolated environment.
However, Quick Recap will not be available for chats protected by Advanced Chat Privacy settings, adding an extra layer of control for those prioritizing confidentiality.
Currently under development, Quick Recap is expected to roll out in a future update. Meanwhile, beta users can already try it out by installing version 2.25.21.12 of the app.
