Uzbekistan plans to establish an Engineering Valley in Asaka, Andijan region, aimed at developing engineering, electronics and technology-based manufacturing.
The initiative was announced on September 24 during a meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the development of Andijan region.
The new industrial and technological area is expected to build on Asaka’s more than 30 years of experience in the automotive and mechanical engineering industries. The project will focus on developing a broader ecosystem around these industries rather than limiting production to traditional manufacturing.
According to the plans, the Engineering Valley will develop areas including software development, electronics, electromechanics and engineering services. This is expected to create opportunities for companies working on technology-intensive products and services.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen Andijan’s position as a center for engineering talent in the Fergana Valley. The region already has experience in automotive and mechanical engineering, while the new approach is aimed at creating technologies and products with higher added value.
During the meeting, officials were also instructed to develop new business and industrial areas in Andijan. Across these areas, the government plans to attract $7 billion in investment and create at least 70,000 high-income jobs.
The $7 billion investment target applies to the broader 1,000-hectare business and industrial areas planned across the region, rather than specifically to the Engineering Valley.
The Engineering Valley is part of Uzbekistan’s wider efforts to expand technology-based manufacturing, develop engineering expertise and increase the production of higher-value products.
