Russian transport and logistics group FESCO sees Uzbekistan as one of the key hubs in its Central Asian strategy. The company has launched a new container rail service connecting China with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.
The new FESCO Caravan Shuttle delivers cargo from Chinese cities to Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan via the Dostyk and Altynkol border crossings. The first shipment of light-industry goods traveled from Xi’an to Tashkent’s Chukursay station in 14 days.
According to FESCO, Uzbekistan’s geographic position, growing foreign trade, industrial base and potential as a regional logistics center make the country particularly important for its Central Asian expansion.
The new service comes as trade flows from western China to Central Asia continue to grow, particularly from manufacturing hubs in Sichuan. In June, FESCO also opened a new office in Chengdu to develop container transportation between western China and Central Asia by land.
FESCO has operated in Uzbekistan for more than 15 years. Over the past 12 years, the company has transported nearly 600 container trains on the Vladivostok–Tashkent route.
The new rail service strengthens Uzbekistan’s position in the growing China–Central Asia trade corridor, connecting Chinese manufacturing centers with Central Asian markets. For Uzbekistan, this could mean more direct access to Chinese supply chains and greater opportunities to develop its role as a regional transport and logistics hub.
FESCO’s assessment is another signal that Uzbekistan’s geographic position is becoming increasingly valuable as trade routes between China and Central Asia expand.
