Google’s Gemini AI platform has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, marking a major milestone in the global AI race. Google says Gemini has become one of the fastest-growing products in the company’s history.
The platform has grown rapidly. Gemini had around 400 million monthly active users in May 2025, reaching 750 million by February 2026 and 950 million by July. It then added another 50 million users to cross the 1 billion mark.
According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Gemini is now the company’s 14th product with more than 1 billion users. The list also includes Google Search, Gmail, Drive, Android, YouTube and Chrome.
A major factor behind Gemini’s growth is its integration across Google’s ecosystem. The AI assistant is increasingly connected with Android and Google’s other services, while Google is also adding new features such as Daily Brief and Gemini Spark.
The milestone comes as competition with OpenAI’s ChatGPT intensifies. ChatGPT also surpassed 1 billion monthly active users in June 2026, meaning two major AI assistants have now reached the billion-user milestone.
The numbers show that the AI race is no longer only about which model is more capable. Distribution and ecosystem integration are becoming just as important. Google’s advantage is its ability to bring Gemini directly into products already used by billions of people every day.
