Uzbekistan is taking another bold step in developing its digital and AI-driven economy.
The Republic of Karakalpakstan will soon introduce a special discounted electricity tariff for mining activities, according to the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP).
This initiative is part of a larger program aimed at attracting up to $100 million in investment and creating a supportive environment for high-tech industries — from AI development to digital infrastructure and green energy mining.
AI, education, and innovation at the core
The decision follows a recent presidential meeting focused on accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across Uzbekistan’s economy, science, and governance. The agenda included training AI specialists, launching research labs at universities, and supporting local innovation ecosystems.
“The reduced electricity tariffs will not only attract investors but also help legalize mining activities,” said Vyacheslav Pak, First Deputy Director of NAPP, in an interview with Oʻzbekiston 24.
Green and sustainable digital industry
Earlier this year, President Mirziyoyev proposed the creation of a special mining zone in Karakalpakstan powered entirely by renewable energy sources. This approach combines economic growth with environmental responsibility.
Toward a tech-driven regional hub
Alongside the preferential tariffs, plans are underway to establish a technological cluster in Karakalpakstan — uniting companies in AI, digital economy, and mining technologies. The cluster will collaborate with educational institutions and investors to build industrial, energy, and innovation solutions. Experts believe these initiatives could position Uzbekistan as one of Central Asia’s leaders in digital infrastructure and AI-powered economic growth.
