Startup Garage Heads to Morocco: Uzbek Startups Enter the North African Market

Uzbekistan’s largest venture studio — Startup Garage — participated in this week’s GITEX Africa Summit in Morocco and officially launched its operations in North Africa with the opening of a new office in Casablanca. This marks the first Central Asian venture studio to establish a presence in the region — a significant step toward enhancing cross-regional startup collaboration.

Expanding into New Markets

Startup Garage is already active across all 14 regions of Uzbekistan, supporting over 150 startups. Among them, more than 10 have attracted external investment exceeding $2 million. Now, this thriving ecosystem extends into Casablanca as well.

Why North Africa?

GITEX Africa is one of the continent’s largest technology events. It was here that Startup Garage’s founder, Muhammad Khalil, stated:

“Uzbek startups are developing tech solutions that are needed worldwide. Our international presence is designed to act as a bridge — helping take these ideas to a global stage.”

Backed by AloqaVentures

One of Startup Garage’s key partners is AloqaVentures. The firm’s managing partner, Sukhrob Gaybulloev, shared his thoughts on the expansion:

“Startup Garage is becoming a launchpad for the most promising ventures in our country. The ideas being developed here demonstrate Uzbekistan’s growing innovation potential.”

What’s Next?

  • Stronger tech ties between Central Asia and North Africa
  • Greater global exposure for Uzbek startups
  • Access to new investors and mentors, leading to larger, more impactful projects

Startup Garage is more than just a startup builder — it’s an innovation infrastructure designed to guide founders toward global markets.
