Uzbekistan and South Korea plan to launch an AgriTech University and “Smart Farm”

Uzbekistan is strengthening cooperation with South Korea to modernize agriculture through technology, develop agricultural education, and expand local food production. The plans were discussed during meetings between Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Agriculture delegation and South Korean partners.

The two sides discussed establishing a Korea–Uzbekistan AgriTech University. The university is planned to operate under a “3+1” education model. Students are expected to study smart agriculture, agribusiness management, biology, and food technology. The sides also discussed developing the university’s technical infrastructure and signing a cooperation agreement.

Another key area of cooperation is the establishment of a smart farm in Uzbekistan. The project is expected to introduce modern agricultural technologies, train local specialists, and provide Uzbek professionals with opportunities to improve their skills in South Korea.

The two sides also agreed to test selected Korean vegetable and melon varieties in Uzbek greenhouses. This could help assess how Korean agricultural technologies and crop varieties perform under local conditions.

The cooperation will extend beyond agriculture. Uzbekistan and South Korean companies are also exploring the possibility of producing kimchi and seaweed-based chips in Uzbekistan. The sides also discussed importing Jeju mandarins to Uzbekistan and expanding food trade between the two countries. Products from South Korean food company Dongwon F&B are already sold in Uzbekistan, including through the Korzinka retail chain.

Uzbekistan is increasingly focusing on digital technologies, automation, and smart farming to modernize its agricultural sector. Cooperation with South Korea could help Uzbekistan not only adopt advanced agricultural technologies but also develop a workforce capable of operating and adapting them to local conditions.

The latest initiatives could connect AgriTech education, technology transfer, and agricultural production within a single ecosystem. South Korean companies are expected to visit Uzbekistan in August for further discussions on implementing the projects.
