Apple is reportedly working on a new generation of Mac computers designed for artificial intelligence workloads. According to industry insiders, the company’s upcoming M7 Ultra chip could support up to 1.5TB of unified memory, making it the most powerful—and potentially the most expensive—Mac ever built.
The report also suggests that Apple is rethinking its chip roadmap. Instead of releasing the expected M6 Pro, M6 Max, and M6 Ultra processors, the company may shift its focus directly to the M7 lineup in an effort to accelerate AI-focused hardware development.
The M7 Ultra is expected to significantly improve on-device AI performance. With up to 1.5TB of unified memory, future Mac systems could handle large language models (LLMs), AI-powered content generation, advanced 3D rendering, and other compute-intensive workloads without relying heavily on cloud infrastructure.
Insiders also claim that the M7 Ultra could become the most powerful Apple Silicon chip to date, with AI performance approaching specialized accelerators such as Nvidia Blackwell. Rather than competing in the AI server market, Apple appears to be focusing on giving professional Mac users the ability to run increasingly complex AI workloads locally.
Apple has not officially confirmed the existence of the M7 Ultra or its specifications. However, the company’s growing investment in Apple Intelligence and on-device AI capabilities suggests that more powerful Apple Silicon chips are likely to play a central role in its future strategy.
