One of the world’s largest chip manufacturers, Nvidia, is further expanding its activities in robotics in 2025. According to the Financial Times, the company will introduce a new generation of compact computers called Jetson Thor, specifically designed for humanoid robots, in the first half of the coming year.
What is the main focus of the strategy?
This decision is part of Nvidia’s long-standing strategy. The company does not aim to compete with robot manufacturers like Tesla. Instead, Nvidia seeks to provide core technologies to hundreds of thousands of robot developers worldwide. According to Deepu Talla, Nvidia’s vice president of robotics, the company’s goal is to act as an OEM supplier.
Why now?
In an interview with the Financial Times, Deepu Talla stated that this shift is tied to two major technological breakthroughs: the development of generative AI models and the ability to train robots using simulated environments.
A new chapter for Nvidia
Although Nvidia hasn’t openly acknowledged this, another reason for its move could be that major clients like Amazon and Google are working to reduce their dependence on Nvidia’s AI chips by developing their own technologies. This situation demands Nvidia to solidify its position in the industry.
Tesla and Nvidia collaboration
Speaking of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, Nvidia has confirmed its technological collaboration with Tesla in creating these robots. This development is expected to bring significant advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence.
